Closing Film for the triptych of revenge Korean Park Chan-Wook. Almost on a par with Old Boy, Pearl maximum of the genre, but this movie has its limits and strengths of the previous chapter did not, for better or for worse.
defects are those of a plot at times treated as a little too linear. The first twenty minutes on most (but also to myself, I admit), they seemed incomprehensible, only to be clarified over time. In addition, some of the final scenes are really heavy, only recommended to those who have a special stomach, but it is a point on which I must return.
The advantages are in having a female character instead (Lee Yeong-ae), which benefits the entire film with his looks and his talent. This makes some scenes feel very and, let us say, lived. Things that sometimes were prevented in the previous chapter because of the hardness and anger of the protagonist. Here too, the main character, Lee Geum-ja, has suffered unjust imprisonment and craving their own justice, but her being a woman and see things through that particular emotional (and let's face it, even sexual) gives the project his personal force that makes everyone agrees.
rawness and sweetness then combined into one. The result is a melancholy and romantic delirium of this "Lady Vengeance", yet another pearl in the curriculum of a director / writer of undoubted talent who, after exploring the self (or at least, so he says), wanted to move away from the focus of hatred, anger and violence of his earlier films graced the main theme. Thus was born this masterpiece of cinema - and I speak on a fresh mind, conscious of what I say in every way.
This registry and artistic maturation allowed to enrich the film with other themes, such as the complaint of the fourth estate information and comment on a particular way of seeing now hypocritical religion. All fixed to a single end goal, like everything that Geum-ja is to interact with the characters and the boundary that allows him to succeed in his final mission.
also the point at which everything is at its peak, the highlight scene , the representation of infanticide, is shown in a visually stunning but not stay within nell'esagerazione, restless showing very little. Because of these acts is done to see only the minimum necessary, but I defy anyone to deal with a first run without feeling a strange feeling in my stomach (like the chainsaw scene in "Scarface" de Palma).
Nothing else to say except: a masterpiece!
