So much to be submitted to the 61 ° Venice Film Festival in 2004, and defined as "one of the 100 best movies of history" from the IMDB site. It revealed to the world that the young director Richard Kelly, can upset the film world only twenty-eight years.
The story of the young student Donnie Darko, a boy who suffers from mental disorders. One night was a hallucination: a giant rabbit named Frank who tells him to follow him, revealing that the world will end soon, just between the "28 days, 6 hours, 42minuti, 12 seconds." At that moment, the engine of an aircraft breaks away from the car ending up right on Donnie's room. The boy was considered a miracle by his fellow citizens (when the engine fell on him was following Frank) but some things do not add up: you can not goats which plane is owned by the engine, and Frank comes back specifically to women giving orders .. . What is true and what is not?
Donnie begins to seek the truth in their own way.
Film strange and alienating. By many (mostly young) praised, and many (the public more 'experienced') hated. Definitely is a film from the curious and unusual language, but sometimes a clever film he plays his cards so successful with the target group that interests them. Furthermore, it was only shot in twenty-eight days, exactly the same predicted by Frank ... coincidence?
From fifteen well I used to cheer this film as a masterpiece, now that I'm more grown-up I can give a much more objective opinion. I think that is a remarkable film, however, that it has something to say and says it in his own way, brave as a debut that carves out its own space between the chaos of any that you see too often. On the other hand, remains to be too pleased with his sometimes cryptic and odd , and seems to seek in every way to be as bizarre and incomprehensible as possible, marking the hand too heavily on the final, making the visions additional - instinctively - due mainly to understand something.

PS: there is also a director's cut of 20 minutes longer, but purists tend to prefer that the first theatrical release (in America in 2001, and 2004 in Italy).
